Plastic & Non-Metallic Stamping Services

Non-metallic stamping is a process that utilizes a conventional or high-speed punch press of varying tonnages and a set of dies to punch a shape from a strip of extruded plastic sheet or other non-metallic materials. The plastic stamping process is commonly used to produce a variety of flat shapes, including washers, gaskets, and other insulators.

For almost a century, New Process Fibre has been dedicated to continuous improvement in innovative processes and materials. Our in-house tool room leverages advanced technology such as CAD/CAM software, wire EDM, and non-contact vision measurements with calibrations sourced from the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Custom services include extrusion of our own thermoplastics, custom tooling, prototypes, and high-volume orders for customers across many diverse industries.

We have experience serving a wide range of industries, with clients in aerospace and military, automotive, appliance, HVAC, electronics, marine, HVAC, plumbing, power tools, HVAC, sporting goods, and other sectors.

New Process Fibre manufactures many different custom parts for our clients, including:

  • Discs
  • Gaskets
  • End laminations
  • Spacers
  • Tags
  • Washers
  • Insulators

We lend our full expertise and resources for each project, with ample capabilities that make us a trusted partner for custom stamping services.

Capabilities

New Process Fibre is well-equipped to handle standard and custom part orders, with a range of in-house supplies and equipment that allows us to develop quality, functional parts for our clients. Our resources include 75 traditional and high-speed punch presses and over 10,000 washer dies, with the ability to punch strip and coil stock as needed. These internal capabilities enable us to develop solutions of any size, whether it’s a single part or millions for high-volume production.

For each custom project, we accept PDF or CAD files from the client. Using these designs, we can manufacture short- and high-run stampings, progressive stampings, and custom die creations. We also complete in-house prototype runs using steel rule dies for die cutting. Based on your project’s needs, we can produce a variety of shapes, including diamonds, triangles, circles, ovals, and rectangles.

We also can achieve critical tolerances for parts with thicknesses ranging from 0.005 inches to 0.250 inches. We offer services such as embossing, nomenclature, and screen printing for custom parts, as well as a product part approval process (PPAP) for quality assurance. Stamped parts also benefit from a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA).

Custom Plastic & Non-Metallic Stamping Services

Our selection of plastic and non-metallic stamping services includes the following:

Custom Tooling

Our cutting-edge tooling facilities give us increased design flexibility, allowing us to fulfill basic or intricate tooling needs. We incorporate innovative technologies to help minimize cycle time and optimize performance throughout the process.

Our custom tooling capabilities include:

  • Production part approval process (PPAP)
  • Progressive and compound dies
  • Critical thicknesses from 0.005 in. to 0.250 in.
  • Formed parts with diameters from 0.093 in. to 24 in.
  • Multi-cavity tools that can improve throughput while reducing material costs
  • Economical and critical tolerance tooling
  • Compatibility with customer die creations
  • Optimized productivity for low to high-volume production runs
  • Life of Program Tooling (a partial tooling charge for free maintenance to maximize your part’s service life)
  • Ability to work with CAD files and PDF files

Prototyping

Prototyping is essential to minimizing risk and ensuring each part’s functionality. To facilitate the process, we use steel rule dies for die-cutting each prototype. Additionally, we offer fast turnarounds to assist with any necessary adjustments before production runs. We also work closely with each client to meet quality, cost, and functionality requirements with every prototype.

Ultimately, we provide a seamless transition from the prototyping phase to mass production.

High-Volume Orders

With almost 50 punch presses and more than 10,000 washer dies, our in-house resources allow for highly efficient and quality high-volume production. Our facilities can handle anywhere from single-part orders to projects requiring millions of parts.

In addition, we use highly efficient streamlined processes that maintain both speed and quality, with the flexibility needed to adhere to each client’s project requirements while meeting strict deadlines. Finally, our quality assurance processes further ensure consistent quality regardless of project volume.

Materials

Numerous non-metallic materials are available for stamping, such as:

Vulcanized Fibre

This is a durable yet lightweight non-metallic material made from a mix of paper, wood pulp, and rag. It offers superior abrasion and impact resistance with ideal flammability ratings for high-heat applications. Many applications use this material for stampings, including tooling in the electrical and automotive industries, among others.

Laminates

Laminate material includes various resins. Laminate stampings offer high mechanical, chemical, and electrical performance based on grading by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Suitable applications include automotive, aerospace, industrial, electronics, and petroleum.

Thermoplastics

Applications that require parts with high temperature resistance may opt for certain types of thermoplastics, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), nylon, or Teflon. Consumer products frequently use thermoplastics in their designs, including plastic bags, toys, and DVDs, along with many commercial and industrial applications.

Material Stock

We carry a wide selection of in-stock materials, including the following:
